Description

A Medfield Historical Minute... This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis. "In the fall of 1775, during the beginnings of the American Revolution, Nathan Hale, a member of the Connecticut Militia, made his way from Connecticut to Cambridge and to the Siege of Boston that was taking place. Along the way he and others in his militia stayed here in Medfield, a stop on the Middle Post Road in route to Boston. The Tavern they stayed in was owned by Seth Clark, today known as the Clark Tavern, which sits at 353-355 Main Street. Hale later volunteered to gather information on the British for General George Washington, was caught in New York City and hanged as a spy, and his immortal words of "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country" are today etched into our history books."
