Press release from Lindenhurst Union Free School District: Jan. 13, 2021 Though the holiday season may have felt different to most, the students and staff throughout the Lindenhurst Union Free School District continued to spread joy and take part in charitable drives and festive events. Districtwide, a great emphasis was placed on making sure that the holidays were special for all. The students of Lindenhurst High School's Paw Patrol Club volunteered their time to assist the Islip Animal Shelter during the annual Holiday Animal Toy Drive. The students worked in one-hour shifts from 11-4. To respect the safety of the school community, members of the staff at Daniel Street Elementary School took part in a gift card collection to benefit some of the Daniel Street families in need of support. The school received assistance with the drive from some community businesses including Lindy Cares and Diamond Nail Salon. At Lindenhurst Middle School, students in Jacqueline Korsen's art class took part in an origami unit in which students made a Masu box, self-locking envelope, owl and fox. The students used the envelopes to send holiday messages of gratitude to the residents of a U.S. Navy base in California who were not able to go home for the holidays. Student Council members at Alleghany Avenue and William Rall elementary schools organized toy drives in their respective schools to benefit community members and the Cohen Children's Medical Center in need this holiday season. The holiday spirit was shared throughout as students celebrated the season with virtual school singalongs, virtual gingerbread decorating and thematic school days such as Ugly Sweater Day, Polar Express Day and Grinch Day. Additionally, the Lindenhurst High School Thespian Troupe performed "It's A Wonderful Life" during a live radio show for the community on Dec. 18-19 and performing arts groups from Lindenhurst High School and middle school shared virtual musical performances with the community on the district's website and social media.
