Levittown Students Learned About Holidays Around The World

LEVITTOWN, NY — Summit Lane Elementary School 4th graders recently took a trip a trip around the world this past holiday season, kind of, according to a Levittown School District news release. The students, who are in Christine Pase and Michelle Matos' classes, learned about how holidays are celebrated in different countries by using their Chromebooks to conduct research and arranged their information on a graphic organizer, district officials said. As part of the project, district officials explained, each student created present-shaped colored boxes with information like the languages spoken and holiday traditions and expressions featured on the outside. For a personal touch, the students used gift tags and bows to put the boxes together, officials said. In a third class, taught by Casey Nash, students also used their Chromebooks to learn more about holidays around the world and they made a presentation using Google Slides, according to district officials. As part of the project, the class practiced writing to inform by incorporating text features such as captions, headings and sidebars, and then presented their findings to their classmates, officials said. The projects allowed the 4th graders to showcase their creativity and was a great way for the students to learn more about different countries and cultures right from their classrooms, according to district officials.
