Framingham May Hire Dozens To Prep For Schools Reopening

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham Public Schools may hire up to 45 people in preparation for a return to in-person learning, which is tentatively set for late January and early February. About 40 of the jobs are for classroom supervisors who would oversee students in class while the teacher teaches remotely. The district may hire an additional five child care supervisors to watch over the children of Framingham teachers. In collaboration with city health officials, Superintendent Robert Tremblay has set coronavirus benchmarks for a return to classrooms. Framingham would need to have a citywide positive test rate of 4 percent or lower and fewer than 10 new cases per day per 100,000 people for the district to enter hybrid learning. If those two benchmarks are met, high needs students would return to class beginning Jan. 27, and general education students would return Feb. 3. But it's unclear if the city will hit those benchmarks in just a few weeks. As of Monday, the citywide positive test rate was 7.61 percent, and new daily cases per 100,000 were at 62.32 per day.
