EAST MEADOW, NY — Two teens were arrested Monday night after police say they tried to rob two plainclothes officers who were in an unmarked car.
According to police, two officers on narcotics enforcement were parked in an unmarked car in front of the Coliseum Motor In, at 1650 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, at 8:35 p.m. The officers saw two people exit the hotel and approach their car.
Police say one of the people — Jordan Hernandez, 18, of Uniondale — put on a white ski mask while walking up to the passenger side of the car. The other person — Jose Pineda, 18, of Hempstead — had a large bulge in his sweatshirt pocket as he approached the driver side, police said.
The two officers got out of the car, displayed their badges and ordered the two teens to stop. Police say the officers found that Pineda had a fake black/silver handgun and a kitchen knife on him. Police say the teens were planning to rob the officers in their car. They were both arrested.
Hernandez and Pineda are both charged with second-degree attempted robbery. They were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
