MIAMI, FL — A former North Miami Beach police officer was among those who breached the U.S. Capitol building and rioted during Congress' certification of the 2020 presidential election, the Miami Herald reported.
Nicholas Lentz, who was an officer with the North Miami Beach Police Department from June 2016 until August, shared a live video to his Facebook page from inside the Capitol building, reports said. He has since deleted the video.
"America has spoken," Lentz said in the video, which was obtained by the Miami Herald.
The former Marine added, "You cannot stop millions of people, you cannot stop it. You can't. It's impossible. America has a voice, we give them the power, we give the power, the people give the power. And we're here to take it back."
North Miami Beach Mayor Anthony DeFillipo confirmed that Lentz is the man in the video, reports said.
The video doesn't show Lentz entering the Capitol building or participating in any violent acts. He has not been arrested for his involvement in the riot and doesn't face any charges.
Dozens of people have been arrested and charged with federal crimes since Jan. 6.
