TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River Police Department grew in numbers this week with the introduction of nine new Class I Special Police Officers and one jail supervisor. The department's additions were announced on Tuesday in a post to the department's Facebook page. According to the post, one of the hires was Craig Ronckovitz, who will serve as a Toms River Jail Supervisor. A group of nine Class I Special Police Officers were also hired: Kevin Anderson, Dylan Bonilla, Brian Dziedzic, Max Garris, Nicholas Johnson, Mark Little, Chris Locha, Donald O'Brien, Peter Rao. The department said Class I officers are required to attend an 80-hour training academy that teaches them about criminal law, motor vehicle law, writing police reports and use of force. The academy also covers topics like CPR, first aid, proper handcuffing, baton use and self-defense techniques. Class I officers provide safety, security, protection and enjoyment for citizens using the Toms River Township Parks System, the department said. Both permanent and seasonal Class I positions are offered. According to the post, the primary function of seasonal part-time Class I officers is to offer high-visibility community policing during the summer months. Seasonal officers participate in bicycle and beach patrol on Toms River's barrier island.
