SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro Police officers seized nine guns in one week, including three so-called "ghost guns" that don't have a serial number, or the serial number has been removed. Two of the guns were seized as officers responded to a home invasion, and another during a burglary call. Police released photos of some of the weapons, including an assault rifle and extended magazines. Here's a roundup of the gun seizures: On 1/6/21 at 2:30 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop and recovered a ghost gun with a 36 round, extended magazine. On 1/6/21 at 7:40 p.m. officers contacted a subject inside a suspicious vehicle and recovered a firearm and illegal drugs. On 1/7/21 at 1 a.m. officers contacted a suspicious individual and recovered a handgun from his person. On 1/7/21 at 3 a.m. officers responded to a home invasion robbery and recovered two handguns, along with arresting two suspects. On 1/9/21 at 3 a.m. officers conducted a vehicle stop and recovered a handgun. On 1/10/21 at 11 p.m. officers responded to a disturbance call and heard gunshots. They recovered two firearms, one was a handgun, and the other was a rifle; both were ghost guns. On 1/11/21 at 11:30 p.m. officers responded to a residential burglary and contacted a suspect near the area. A handgun was recovered from the suspect's vehicle. "Each of these encounters is dangerous since our officers were contacting armed individuals or had access to a weapon within reach. We are glad that we were able to remove these weapons from the streets and safely apprehend the individuals," said Lt. Ali Khan. In 2020, SLPD recovered 116 guns, including 25 ghost guns.
