Jefferson County Adds 402 New Coronavirus Cases, State Adds 3,147

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health reported 3,147 new COVID-19 cases statewide Wednesday, with 402 of those reported in Jefferson County. The state also reported 187 deaths from the virus, bringing its total to 5,760. Jefferson County has not reported the number of COVID-19 deaths from Wednesday, but Tuesday the county confirmed 58 deaths from the virus, bringing the county's death total to 842 since the pandemic began 10 months ago. In the last week, Jefferson County saw a couple of days where cases seemed to drop, before reported more than 600 new cases Tuesday. Kay Ivey will either let it expire or extend it. Health officials have urged Ivey to extend the ordinance until cases start to decrease statewide.
