Over 80% of children who come through the foster care system have some level of sensory issues, which often looks like bad behavior. Other children are born with sensory issues that can be mystifying to parents. Whether you have a child by adoption, foster, kinship or birth, learning about sensory integrative principles will enhance your parenting skills. Join us for this one hour overview of sensory issues. Speaker is Ashley McCoy, MOTR/L. Information about her is below. CLASS DESCRIPTION Kids with sensory processing differences can impact both the routines and rhythms of your entire family. Come learn with us to help develop a practical understanding of how sensory processing can impact a person’s ability to self- regulate. At the end of the class, we want you to be able to take some basic skills to be able to do the following: Have a common language that everyone in the family can use to describe how their body’s readiness to self- regulate Practical habits and routines to support the sensory and self- regulation needs of the individuals in your family Identify the sensory needs of both yourself and your child Have a simple and practical ways of dealing with supporting sensory processing needs when not at home Simple and effective ways to educate others. FOSTER PARENT TRAINING CREDIT AND CEU'S FOR SOCIAL WORKERS ARE AVAILABLE. SpeakerAshley McCoy has been a practicing pediatric Occupational Therapist for over 20 years. She has worked in several pediatric settings with a variety of clients. For the past 17 years she has worked in a school setting with kids from 3 years old to 22. She has worked with families and school staff to develop individualized plans to meet the kids needs so that they are able to learn and participate in their environment as independently as possible. In her personal life, Ashley is the adoptive mother to four wonderful kids. Since 2021, Ashley has also worked as the Education Coordinator for Choosing Hope Adoptions.
