Bon Iver was founded in 2006 by the talented singer and songwriter Justin Vernon when he decided to retreat to a remote cabin in Wisconsin during the winter months. It was during this time of isolation that Justin Vernon unexpectedly wrote and recorded a full album by the time spring arrived. The name Bon Iver is an intentionally misspelled version of the French phrase, “good winter.” He named his first album For Emma, Forever Ago (2007) and it quickly gained recognition for its emotional authenticity.
