Description
Bring the magic and creativity of literature and board games into the play room. This day long training will explore the integration, history and theory of play therapy and bibliotherapy and ways of incorporating books and board games with client’s treatment goals and presenting problems. Several popular books and board games will be discussed with examples of modifications and therapeutic uses. Participants will walk away with several play therapy and bibliotherapy interventions they can utilize immediately. Objectives:1. Participants will identify 5 play therapy interventions incorporating bibliotherapy. 2. Participants will analyze how books can be used clinically to address topics like emotions, social skills and trauma in the playroom using case analysis, diagnostic criteria and experiential experience. 3. Participants will list over 25 children’s books that can be used therapeutically with play. 4. Participants will define common 5 uses for board games in play therapy including traditional board games, therapeutic board games and making your own board games. 5. Participants will understand 3 modifications when utilizing bibliotherapy and board games in play therapy, including considerations for special populations. 6. Participants will identify 5 board game interventions to use in the play room while considering the clinical presentation of the client. About the trainers:Bea Burchill, LSCSW, RPTAbout our presenters: Bea Burchill, LSCSW, Registered Play Therapist™ received her BSW from Wichita State University and then went on to receive her MSW from the University of Kansas. Bea has many years of experience as a child therapist working with children aged 2-20 who have experienced childhood trauma. She has worked in domestic violence agencies as well as community mental health. Currently she is an elementary school social worker. Bea is a big nerd and loves all things Harry Potter, Superheroes and pop culture. She is passionate about play and fostering moments of joy and connection. She loves spending time outside and reading picture books with her toddler, husband and family. Ragan Snyder-Smith, LSCSW RPT-S, M.Ed.Ragan is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ . She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Wichita State University. She also has a Master’s in Education from Newman University. She has her Trauma-Focused CBT Certification. She is working towards her certification to become a Certified Sex Therapist and has received EMDR Training through an EMDRIA approved provider and am working towards becoming a Certified EMDR Therapist. She also provides training for mental health clinicians and supervision for those seeking licensure as a LSCSW in the state of Kansas and nationally as a Registered Play Therapist. Ragan has been a social worker for 20 years and worked in foster care, adoptions, drug and alcohol counseling, school social work, medical and psychiatric social work, and is currently in private practice.
