Join BEMP (Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program) and Latino Outdoors Albuquerque on our first Water Series Session. Session 1 (May 6th): Participants will walk the route of stormwater runoff and make their way to the Rio Grande. Along the way we will pick up trash and if time permits, we will make an art project with trash. Once we reach the river, we will do some basic water testing to gauge the health of the river. Session 2 (May 20th): Participants will learn about macro-invertebrates in the bosque ponds and how they indicate water health for both ponds and the river. We will collect these arthropods, identify them, and create a hypothesis for the water health. As we are walking through the bosque we will be picking up trash in order to leave the area cleaner that we found it. Session 3 (June 10th & 11th): Anyone can participate in these sessions; however, selected families who participate in both May 6th and May 20th session will have the option to join us on a river float and overnight camping trip on the Rio Grande on June 10th. Sesión 1 (6 de Mayo): Caminaremos a lo largo de la ruta de desagüe de las aguas pluviales hacia el Río Grande. Durante nuestra caminata, recogeremos basura y si el tiempo lo permite, tendremos la oportunidad de crear arte con lo que recolectemos. En el Río, tendremos la oportunidad de llevar a cabo algunas pruebas para determinar la salud del agua. Sesión 2 (20 de Mayo): Aprenderemos sobre macroinvertebrados en el Bosque y como estos se pueden usar para determinar la salud del agua en los estanques y el río. Usaremos éstos artrópodos para desarrollar una hipótesis sobre la salud del agua. También, recogeremos basura en el camino para asegurarnos de que dejemos el espacio mejor de como lo encontramos. Sesión 3 (10 y 11 de Junio): Seleccionaremos a algunas familias que hayan participado en las actividades del 5 y 20 de Mayo para unirse a nosotros en un viaje en Balsa y acampada en el Río Grande.
