JEWELRY BEGINNING FABRICATION - Tuesday 6-9 PM for 8 weeks, Tuesdays, April 11-May 30th: Expand your love of jewelry making in this 8-week introduction to jewelry fabrication. In it we’ll be exploring the basic and vital techniques to jewelry fabrication and metal smithing. Our wonderful Palo Alto jewelry studio is outfitted with all the tools and equipment to take your jewelry making to the next level and beyond. This course will be taught by Kelly Harrison, who’s been metal smithing for over 10 years and attended classes at Parson’s School of Design in NYC. We’ll explore foundation techniques such as: Introduction to vital jewelry tools and types of jewelry including shop safety Introduction to metals: Using copper, silver, and other nonferrous metalsBasic metal working: Sawing, filing, polishing, drilling, hammering, texturing and applying a patinaMetal joining techniques, including cold connection rivetingBasic bezel making and stone settingIntroduction to the torch: Annealing, pickling and solderingWe’ll also introduce you to other studio tools such as the rolling mill, hydraulic press and more.You’ll also get the chance to leave this class wearing a project or two that you’ve created!This class is structured for beginners. Materials fee is $35 payable to the instructor and covers all basic supplies except silver. Let’s face it, life is too short for store bought jewelry! Learn how to envision, design and execute your jewelry dreams and make unique gifts for others.
