Description

North Carolina Collaborative Attorney Network (NC-CAN) is thrilled to announce and welcome Cat J. Zavis to lead its Advanced Collaborative Law Training on June 2, 2023. Cat is a collaborative attorney, trainer and coach who has been leading trainings for over 14 years. A highly sought after facilitator and trainer, she will provide the tools and techniques of Nonviolent (Compassionate) Communication in order support your Collaborative Practice. This workshop is designed for practitioners who have previously completed the basic Collaborative Law Training. Hypotheticals will be geared towards both family law and general civil practice. In this lively and interactive training, participants will learn: • tools to understand your own needs (i.e., interests), your client’s needs and the needs of the other team members to be better equipped to find creative solutions that meet everyone’s needs; • how to distinguish between strategies (i.e., positions) and needs, and how to identify when needs are actually positions to get other needs met; • how to make requests that actually meet the needs identified and thus support the process; and • skills, such as empathy and honest expression, that will help you move through periods of “stuckness” and bring healing and creativity to the forefront. This training will include an enhanced understanding of needs (aka, interests) and how to explore needs more fully to come to greater understanding of the underlying needs motivating clients. Concrete skills such as empathy and compassionate yet powerful speaking will be taught. Formal teaching will be followed by modeling, role-playing, and coaching. Participants are asked to bring questions and issues from their practice so we can work with their real-life challenges. Participants will leave with skills they can use the very next day. NOTE: Space is limited to the first 45 registrants. *approved for 6 hours of general CLE (NC) If you have questions about this training, please email Kelley Gondring at [email protected].
