Description

Southern Documentary Fund and Black Public Media presents AFTER SHERMAN, directed by Jon-Sesrie Goff. AFTER SHERMAN is the story of an American inheritance. Filmmaker Jon-Sesrie Goff creates a layered portrait of the South today, an update to General Sherman’s field orders which deeded the land of low-country to freed slaves after the civil war only to have that promise undercut by years of racist laws and state violence. In After Sherman, we hear from the community that survives in their own words. The director follows his father as he does the impossible work of trying to hold back the rising tide of gentrification and a hate crime. Doors open at 6:30pm and the film will start at 7:00pm. There will be a post-film discussion with Christopher Everett (Southern Documentary Fund) and Jon-Sesrie Goff (director) immediately following the screening. This film screening is sponsored by Black Public Media.
