Description

In partnership with the University of Montevallo and the Shelby County Multidisciplinary Team led by Maribeth Bowman (Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center), Ahzshaka Johnson (Shelby County DHR), and Brad Jordan (Pelham PD), we invite you to attend an investigative training and simulation on infant abuse. Shelby County Multidisciplinary Training Programs provide an interactive and multi-faceted training regimen aimed at increasing collaborative and effective initial responses, investigations, and prosecutions of child abuse cases among the varied disciplines. In addition to traditional classroom presentations, participants will gain firsthand experience through a simulated scene mock-up, including a house, crime scene, hospital room, and courtroom. The goal of the interactive training is to create an environment that is safe and conducive to learning with realistic challenges and feedback of child abuse and neglect response and investigations that can be used for daily practice. During each training, participants build upon skills gained during presentations by experts throughout the state regarding child sexual abuse, initial response for first responders, physical abuse and neglect, and court testimony. Training participants actively interact with crime scenes, evidence (physical and latent), medical providers, alleged victims, and suspects. Together, teams will interview witnesses and providers, share information, conduct searches, and attempt to successfully resolve their cases. Attendees eligible for 6.5 APOST Credits.
