More on the technique: This course will help actors deepen and diversify their creative palette. The foundation of the course is Sanford Meisner's technique. As a starting point, he took Stanislavski's system but went further and called for a rejection of "emotional memory." The main postulate of his methodology is repetition exercises based on maximum interaction between actors. The technique focuses on the actor's instincts and their partner's reactions - it calls on the actor to respond to what their partner is feeling and how they are expressing those feelings in the present moment. The actor's performance becomes natural and therefore more believable and effective because the sense of truth arises not from the head but from the level of emotional interaction here and now. And this allows the actor to turn off their head and provides unprecedented creative freedom. According to Meisner's postulates, the actor should not follow a preconceived logical pattern. When the roof collapses during an earthquake, we don't think about which shoulder to turn: instincts themselves suggest what to do. Similarly, the actor should rely on their instincts and what is born in the moment, turn off the focus on themselves and their emotions, and concentrate on their partner. Achieving this is not so easy, so Meisner developed his own set of exercises, which Svetlana Efremova uses in her intensive. The list of Hollywood actors and directors who have used or continue to use this technique in their work is impressive: Gregory Peck, Sydney Pollack, Grace Kelly, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Tom Cruise, and many others.
