Please use one ticket per child. This program allows children to read to an animal at shelters or local businesses. The benefits are five-fold; it gives the reader an opportunity to practice reading skills to a four-legged friend that will not judge them, it teaches empathy and compassion, teaches children that volunteering can be fun, and it helps to socialize the animals as well. Important information to keep in mind: ~ This event is FREE for children ages 5 and up! ~ Parents will NOT be allowed in the cat room with their child while they read and will be required to wait in the cafe area. There are windows you can watch through and an LfC volunteer will be in the room monitoring the children. ~ Children WILL need to bring books with them. ~ When you walk into the cafe there will be 2 reserved tables at the back of the cafe that you will wait at and check in with an LfC volunteer. ~ Children will read to cats ONLY. ~ You will choose a 30-minute time slot and each child will get 20 minutes to read. The extra 10 minutes are used to check each child in and out and to sign a waiver. ~ When signing your child up you will use one ticket per child and you will need to include their name AND age. The mission of Literacy for Companionship is to educate and empower children with the skills and confidence necessary to be good readers while helping them understand the importance of showing animals compassion and empathy. Canceling your sign-up: Once you sign your child up you will receive a confirmation email, if you ever need to cancel your time, at the bottom of your email (under order summary) is a link that you can click on to cancel your reserved spot. Please note, all of our events are limited, if for any reason your child can't make it please cancel your reservation so another child can sign up! Have questions? Don't hesitate to reach out to us!
