Presenter: James Campbell, LPC, LAC, MAC, AADC Course Description: This session will introduce addiction professionals to ethics as it relates to their relationships with clients, families, employers, and the profession. The importance of confidentiality and the duties and responsibilities of people working within the field will be addressed. Duty to warn, self-disclosure, dual relationship, and differing professional roles will specifically be addressed during the session. This is a foundational training for those newer to the field as well as those who may need a refresher and/or update and will include updates from the NAADAC code of ethics. Course Goals: Identify the difference between ethics, morals, and values. Verbalize one possible positive outcome and one possible pitfall of self-disclosure. Articulate an understanding of confidentiality in the context of ethics. Demonstrate a working knowledge of mandatory reporting and “Duty to Warn”. His passion is helping individuals, families, and relationships to heal through leveraging their strengths and supporting other helping professionals as they cultivate their skills and expertise to assist others more effectively. James is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Addiction Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor, and an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He is also a member of both NAADAC and ACA. James is the immediate past President of Addiction Professionals of South Carolina (aka SCAADAC) and has worked in a wide range of clinical settings over the years. Currently he serves as the Training and Technical Assistance Manager for the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center located at the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse School of Medicine and works privately as a nationally recognized author, consultant, professor, and speaker.
