Description
On this day in 1858 Royal Italian Opera opened in Covent Garden, London. The theatre was originally called Covent Garden, but it was renamed to honour Queen Victoria. The Royal Opera House was home to the first ballet d’action to ever be performed on the main stage. Contrary to “traditional” ballet, the ballet d’action focuses on storytelling through the movement of dance.
