Description

Orchard Book Club invites all Women's Book Clubs to the Read to Build Kickoff Party! Read to Build seeks to involve book club women in building community, both literally and figuratively, by reaching out in support of Habitat for Humanity's Women Build Project. Since book club women enjoy educating themselves about a variety of topics, Orchard Book Club invites all community book club women to join them in helping to build homes for women who are single heads of their households. Support can be solely financial, but comes with the choice to actually participate in the building project later this summer, if desired. Book clubs can combine resources with other book clubs to support a Build Day. However each club chooses to participate, we will have an all book club reading group discussion about the book This is All I Got, by Lauren Sandler, which chronicles one woman’s search for a home. (Date TBA). By initiating Read to Build, Orchard Book Club and Habitat for Humanity hope to generate both awareness and action around the problem of housing and build a caring community of women in the process.
