2nd Act is premiering a staged reading of its newest Prevention Play, I’ll Be There For You! Since 1984, we’ve produced shows to help audiences learn, think, and talk about substance use and its impact on our communities. The writing process began with interviews of Queer and BIPOC youth served by Wayside Youth and Family Services and 2nd Act from the Greater Boston Area. Their words, experiences, and stories were formed into I’ll Be There For You by a diverse writers’ room led by Elizabeth Addison, a long-time 2nd Act collaborator, former actor, and unstoppable queer female playwright of color. The plot will focus on the relationship among teenage friends navigating the intersections of identity, coping mechanisms, and substance use. At the premiere, the audience will not only get to see the new play but also get to hear from the writers and actors about this innovative approach to theatre. This premier is intended to raise funds for I’ll Be There For You to tour schools in New England in the coming school year.
