The NJ Department of Human Services in coordination with NJOEM and Salem County OEM, will be having a Mass Care Exercise at Salem Community College on May 20th from 8am to 1pm.
The college is located at 460 Hollywood Avenue in Carneys Point, NJ 08069. The exercise will involve members of various mass care teams to include a Pet/Animals Sheltering Component, DAFN liaison, Sheltering Group and various other teams engaged in mass care operations during an event.
This exercise is designed to test the set-up of a co-located emergent disaster shelter. It will exercise the functions of Staffing, Dormitory Set-up, Support for People with Disabilities and Access and Function Needs (DAFN) and Companion Animal Sheltering components of the shelter plan and identify potential gaps to be addressed in the plan update. The event will include a general session overview on sheltering for all in attendance and then will be broken up into three specific stations to focus on the following:
· Shelter Set-up and Dormitory Operations
· Companion Animal/Pet Sheltering Area
· Sheltering Operations to support the DAFN Community
An introductory overview and welcome will be conducted prior to the commencement of the shelter set up and a “hot wash” will be held following the securing of all equipment and cleanup of the exercise site. This will be a great opportunity to network with mass care teams throughout the State and Region and gain a better understanding of the key components of a mass care operation.
There is no fee for this event and a light breakfast is planned prior to the start of the exercise.
DRCCs can receive 6 recertification credits for attendance.
