Description

Stephen Keyl studied organ and musicology at Williams College and Duke University. His organ teachers were Robert G. Barrow, Andrew Clarke, and Fenner Douglass. He received a Ph.D. in musicology at Duke with a dissertation on the German Renaissance organist, composer, and writer on the organ Arnolt Schlick. Dr. Keyl has published articles in Imago Musicae and Early Music and has served on the faculty of the Fred Fox School of Music at the University of Arizona. He is Director of Music at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Tucson. Dr. Keyl's program will be based on Hymns, Chants and Chorales for Organ. This is the tentative program: Jesus Christus, unser Heiland (3 verses) — Franz Tunder (1614–1667) Da pacem, Domine (3 verses) — Arnolt Schlick (c. 1460–c. 1521) Three Preludes Founded on Welsh Hymn Tunes — Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872–1958) Bryn Calfaria—Rhosymedre—Hyfrydol Variations on the Austrian Hymn — John Knowles Paine (1839–1906)
