To celebrate the release of Raise Your Voice segments on YouTube and broadcast, there will be a free community event on May 20th from 11-2 p.m. at the Downtown branch of the Chattanooga Public Library. The event is co-hosted by Arts Build, Rhyme N Chatt, and WTCI-PBS. Local authors and poets will interact with guests and sign books. There will also be a pop-up poetry workshop, giveaways, screenings, and literacy activities for teens, kids, and caregivers. Lastly, the event will feature a panel of WTCI producers and Rhyme N Chatt authors sharing the importance of reading and writing as a tool for self-expression. About Raise Your Voice – WTCI has created a special pop-out digital series called Raise Your Voice in partnership with Rhyme N Chatt, a local interactive poetry organization. The series includes nine segments, each one pairs a local author and poet to discuss a theme from a children’s or young adult book. The special series encourages viewers to use reading text as a way to inspire the creative process. Each segment begins with an introduction to acquaint viewers with the texts and themes, and concludes with a prompt for viewers to create their own stories or poems and submit for feedback. About Rhyme N Chatt – First organized in 1999, Rhyme N Chatt Interactive Poetry Organization (RNC) is one of Chattanooga’s historic institutions, where poets are challenged to express themselves. RNC provides a safe place for poetry to be shared and discussed, valuing people and their unique creativity. Rhyme N Chatt takes pride in welcoming new poets and those interested in starting the artform. Members often cite the organization as the first place they openly shared their poetry, feeling unjudged and supported within the safe and friendly atmosphere.
