Description

Join the Feminist Bird Club - Madison Chapter for Global Big Day! We are a bird club dedicated to promoting diversity in birding and providing a safe opportunity to connect with the natural world while fundraising to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ folks, women, and people of color. Join FBC-Madison as we team up with the Friends of Owen Conservation Park on Saturday, May 13th from 9am-11am. The Friends of Owen are participating in the Great Wisconsin Birdathon as team Owen Park Owls and our team FBC Birdathon team, Yes We Pelican!, is going to help them out. Saturday, May 13th just also happens to be Global Big Day, so it'll be a great day to enjoy peak spring migration! We hope you join us as we search for warblers and other spring migrants at Owen Conservation Park, while taking in this beautiful property that the Friends of Owen Conservation Park have put so much time into protecting and restoring! To support their work, head to their Birdathon page and give them a donation! Everyone is welcome at our events, no birding experience required! Please RSVP so we can make sure our trip leaders can accommodate everyone. Directions and Parking: We’ll meet at the main parking lot at Owen Conservation Park. Click here for a Google Maps pin. It is a large paved parking lot. There is accessible parking available. Accessibility information: This location is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible as the terrain is too uneven. We will be walking on rolling terrain with trails that are a mix of dirt, grass, and crushed limestone. We expect to walk 1.5 to 2 miles during this event and will be moving slowly as we search for warblers. There are benches scattered throughout for resting. There are restrooms available at the parking lot. Binoculars are available to borrow. You will have the option to indicate if you need a pair before you checkout. In the event of inclement weather we will cancel and notify you no later than the night before at 6:00PM.
