Clay Martin is a 1999 OBU Alum who was a 4-year starter for the Bison Men's Basketball team. Clay earned All-Conference honors every year he played and as a senior, was named a NAIA All American. Clay is still the career leader in assists and steals at OBU. In 2011, Clay was inducted into the OBU Hall of Fame.
In 2005, Clay began officiating youth and high school football to make an extra money as his wife wanted to be a stay at home mom with their young children. In 2007, Clay was hired by Conference USA where he served as a line judge and referee, earning five post season assignments.
On April 8, 2015, Clay received a call from the NFL inviting him into to the League. He worked as an umpire from 2015-2017 where he was mentored by Ed Hochuli and Carl Cheffers. In 2018, Clay was promoted to the referee position and has continued in that position since. He most recently officiated an NFL playoff game for the 2022 season.
