WAYLAND, MA — With the November election just a few months behind us, it's time to start looking ahead to the 2021 Wayland town election. The Wayland Town Clerk began accepting nomination papers on Jan. 5 for 16 seats up for election in 2021 on nine boards and commissions. Candidates have until March 23 to return papers to run. According to the clerk, only one person has pulled papers so far: Wayland Finance Committee member Adam Gutbezahl, who is seeking a seat on the Board of Selectmen. Here are the seats up for election in 2021: Board of Selectmen (3-year term) Two seats held by Mary Antes and Lea Anderson School Committee (3-year term) Two seats held by Kathleen Steinberg and Ellen Grieco Board of Assessors (3-year term) Two seats held by Zachariah Ventress and John Todd Trustees of the Public Library (3-year term) Two seats held by Judy Lynn Dion and Maureen E. I. White Board of Health (3-year term) Two seats held by John Schuler and Robert DeFrancesco Planning Board (5-year term) One seat held by Andrew Reck Board of Public Works (3-year term) Two seats held by Clifford Lewis and Jonathan Mishara Recreation Commission (3-year term) Two seats held by David Pearlman and Kelly Pierce Housing Authority (2-year term) One vacant seat The Wayland 2021 election will be held on May 11, and the last day to register to vote in the election is April 23. As of this date, state officials had not yet extended the vote-by-mail rules put in place in 2020 due to the pandemic. The extension of vote-by-mail to everyone expires on March 31, although it's possible that could be extended if cases are still high.
