Description

Georgetown East Elementary is the first site for Schools enBloom, and we have big plans! We will be growing lots of fruits and veggies to use in cooking demonstrations throughout the summer for the community to experience preparing and enjoying fresh, organic, nutrient-dense, and healing foods. Just as it takes a village to raise children, it takes a community to grow food; and since "many hands make light work," YOU are an essential part of this local food ecosystem. We coordinate pairs and groups of volunteers every Saturday (rain permitting) to tend to the eight raised beds from mid-May through September/October (there will be nine beds once the wheelchair-accessible bed is installed). Saturday garden days will be a mix of peaceful, calming work days, lively chatter-filled teamwork, and hybrid yoga and plant care experiences. Whatever the vibe that particular day, volunteers will connect with the soil and each other. How Volunteering Works: Volunteers will receive an email 2 - 3 days before the date they signed up for with detailed instructions on what is needed in the garden that Saturday, the point of contact for questions, and how to get any materials and supplies needed. During your hour-long session, we ask that you take pics of the plants so we can monitor their health and progress and your activity to thank you for your help. That's it! We welcome individuals to sign up to be paired/grouped with new friends! If you are volunteering in a pair, family, or group, we will communicate the details to a primary point of contact (POC) and that POC is responisible to sharing the details with their crew. A member of enBloom may or may not be on site with you the day of, but you will ALWAYS have a phone number to call or FaceTime a member of our team for questions or troubleshooting. All volunteers are to join live cooking demonstrations that will take place through the summer to enjoy and celebrate the "fruits" of community labor.
