Description
Interwoven: Container Gardening WorkshopCome connect with nature, engage your senses, boost your creativity and sharpen your focus. Special Operations Forces Spouses are invited to join The Station Foundation at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens to experience the many health benefits of working with plants. Participants will be guided by a horticulturalist to make a beautiful container garden that attracts hummingbirds. Exercising and eating right are said to go hand-in- hand, but when you work in the garden, they actually do. Gardening is one way to maintain your health and enjoy time outside. Unplugging from technology and stepping outside to do work in the garden is refreshing for the mind and spirit. A garden connects us with Nature to heal and nourish our health and wellbeing on many levels. Connecting with the earth through gardening is a perfect place to practice mindfulness because it invites you to be present. Research shows gardening relieves stress, improves your mood and increases your self-esteem. When people spend time in a garden, their anxiety level drops, and they feel less depressed. If you’re digging, hauling, and harvesting, your physical strength, heart health, weight, sleep, and immune systems all benefit. Gardening can also cultivate feelings of empowerment, connection, and creativity.Following this therapeutic, horticultural workshop, we will direct our focus inward to explore how to best care for ourselves to ensure that we are thriving rather than surviving.New to Interwoven events with The Station?
