We will meet at the parking lot of Winco on State Street at 8:00 am to consolidate to one car and leave for the trailhead. The drive is approximately 3.5 hours from Boise. The schedule is as follows: Fri June 16: Depart for Stanley. Hike in set up camp. Sat June 17: enjoy the relaxing and fantastic views from camp. Set up a hammock, fish, explore the area. Whatever your hearts desire! Sun June 18: pack up and hike out. Head into Stanley and have a meal. Potential for hot spring visit depending on time and moods. There are several options on the way home. The hike: there are two options. 1: Lower Trailhead. 4.9 miles with 634 ft elev. gain. The trail along here is beautiful as it snakes along the river. As we are having a high snow year, the run off should make the waterfalls I remember along here very nice. 2: Take the rough road to the upper trailhead. 2.7 miles with 259 ft. Elev. gain. As we are having a high snow year, I cannot guarantee what snow levels we will see in camp. I did this hike a weekend later several years ago and it was mostly clear. During reg. season you can take a longer day hike to Imogene Lake from here. However, this time of year it was too snow covered. Let’s get adventurous and see what we discover! Be prepared to pivot if need be. We will have a blast regardless! Of course there are no services available and we will be practicing all backcountry LNT principles. Make sure to have cold weather and rain gear as it is the Sawtooth’s early season and we should prepare for everything. Bring a day pack for the car with bathing suit and towel in case we have to shift gears. I also love having a change of clothing in said bag for the way home.
