Join us Saturday, May 20th at Grace Dodge Chapel for an encore presentation from our Women's History Month event's guest speaker.
Author and assistant professor of history, Chrissy Yee Lau shares the story of Lily Satow, a young Japanese American woman who attended Asilomar's annual leadership conference of 1926 (from her book New Women of Empire: Gendered Politics and Racial Uplift in Interwar Japanese America). In this presentation, Lau shines light on the role that the YWCA played in the lives of young women of the early 20th century, as well as the roles these young women, in turn, played in their communities as leaders for social change to further racial and gender equality.
