Located on the western side of the peninsula just below the Crosstown Expressway, Cannonborough-Elliottborough was historically a diverse, dynamic, urban community filled with homes and businesses of many of Charleston’s immigrant and African American residents. Though its history is not as well-documented as other areas of the city, the neighborhood’s unique character lives on through the vernacular architecture and oral histories of generations of residents. Today, the neighborhood retains a wide variety of historic mixed-use residential and commercial properties, many of which have received the Preservation Society’s Carolopolis Award, presented each year to recognize exceptional preservation efforts. Join us for a walking tour of the neighborhood with stops at Carolopolis Award-winning properties to hear from local professionals involved in the projects. No interiors are included.
