Join the Eaton Conservation District, the Delta Township Parks Department, Michigan State University, and the Mid-Michigan CISMA for an educational session and round table discussion about lesser celandine, an aggressive invasive species that is rapidly outcompeting native spring ephemeral wildflowers on the Grand River and beyond. Learn how to identify this species, why it is important to control it, and what to do if it is spotted in your area.
The meeting will take place in person at the Delta Township Administration Building in room A at 10 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2023. In person seating is limited to 30 people. (Or you can join the discussion virtually on Zoom by registering here.)
The agenda includes a presentation on lesser celandine, the effects it is having on our ecosystem, and the native plants it is displacing by Abby Deneau from Lansing Area Neighborhood Ecology. Then Lee Miller from Delta Township Parks and Recreation will address the efforts underway to control lesser celandine in Grand Woods Park, and what we are learning about how the parks department can mitigate its spread. Next, Taylor Slear of Mid-Michigan CISMA will introduce the topic of what to do about lesser celandine if it is located on your property. Finally, the discussion will be opened up to attendees to hear what questions and contributions they might have.
