Description

Organized by non-profit 501 (c3) Project Ujima, this is the first of many Peace Circles to take place in the coming months. These Peace Circles are being held throughout Akron to help communities restore and heal from the trauma caused by violence, and will also allow space to facilitate conversations specific to various neighborhoods. Project Ujima’s Peace/Restorative Circles have a proven approach that creates safe spaces for tough and honest conversations. Our circle process allows individuals to center around a shared issue or concern, build relationships of trust, find common ground, and go from talk to action. Our circles are a very patient, yet effective process designed to uncover the things that really bring individuals together in the community. We hope to see our community, especially those ages 18-24, show up in record numbers at our community circle dialogue. We are named “Ujima” after the third principle of Kwanzaa, which means “Collective Work and Responsibility: to build and maintain our community together and make our brother’s and sister’s problems our problems and to solve them together.”
