Description
Let’s do more for mental health, together. Join Us for a Free Mental Health First Aid Training, June 1 and 2! **Attendance both days from 12:00PM-4:00 is required. Throughout May and June, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) is bringing communities together through Take Action LA, which is sponsoring a series of fun, collaborative events in support of mental health. Sycamores is partnering with NAMI June 1 and 2 to host a free Mental Health First Aid Training. This session will cover important mental health topics including signs of distress, how to respond to a crisis, steps for help, and recommendations for speaking to someone with a mental health condition. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion. Why Attend? This training will offer a better understanding of mental health as a whole, and how to actively support and advocate for others from a knowledgeable standpoint. This community-centered event will bring people together to learn as we build momentum around this important cause. Mental Health First Aiders are…Teachers, first responders and veterans. They’re neighbors, parents and friends. They’re people in recovery, and those supporting a loved one. They’re First Ladies and Mayors. Mental Health First Aiders are anyone who wants to make their community healthier, happier and safer for all. Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack—we’d start CPR, or at the very least, call 9-1-1. But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a panic attack or if we were concerned that a friend or co-worker might be showing signs of alcoholism.Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder. When more people are equipped with the tools they need to start a dialogue, more people can get the help they need. Mental Health First Aiders are a vital link between someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge and appropriate supports. See You There! This event takes place on Thursday June 1 and Friday June 2, from noon to 4pm at the Sycamores Palmdale Family Resource Center, 861 Auto Center Dr. Palmdale, CA 93551. We hope you’ll join us!
