QUINCY, MA — The Quincy City Council voted to appoint Nina Liang as its president for 2021 at its meeting Monday night. This will be Liang's second year as president. "I love doing the work. It is absolutely something that I take pride in," Liang said to her colleagues at the meeting after they voted. "With everything that's going on in the world these days, especially in the last week, it really does bring me so much hope to be able to come back into this space and work with all of you." Liang grew up in Quincy and attended Hofstra University in New York, where she studied international business, according to her campaign website. She has served as a Quincy city councilor-at-large since 2015. "Last year at this time I was super proud to stand up and accept representing this council because of the diversity of experience and background, and more importantly than that, passion to serve your constituents," Liang said. "And I have seen all of you fight to continue to serve your constituents on issues that are important to you and that you are committed to in your jobs." Liang thanked Brian Palmucci—the councilor who nominated her—as well as Councilor Ian Cain, who seconded the nomination, along with all of the councilors for their dedication. To close, Liang shouted out the clerk's office for its role in supporting her and the council in the past year. "And with that, Madame Clerk, next item on the agenda please," she said.
