About the AuthorsIn 2012, Pittsburgh native and activist Leon Ford was shot by a Pittsburgh police officer five times as he was racially profiled during a case of mistaken identity. In An Unspeakable Hope, Ford reveals how he faced becoming paralyzed as a new father after the incident and discovered the power of forgiveness and letting go of his hatred. Mark Whitaker is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, My Long Trip Home, and Smoketown: The Untold Story of the Other Great Black Renaissance. The former managing editor of CNN Worldwide, he was previously the Washington bureau chief for NBC News and a reporter and editor at Newsweek, where he rose to become the first African-American leader of a national newsweekly.
