Description
Painted Pastures is excited to partner with Blue Mountain Wine Crafters for our first Flower Arranging Class at Blue Mountain Wine Crafters, 117 E Baltimore St, Funkstown on Sunday, June 11th. Class starts promptly at 1 pm and will be done by 3 pm. Bring your friends and join the fun as Lori shares all her tips and tricks so you can make amazing flower arrangements at home. Lori grows all the flowers on her farm, Painted Pastures, just outside of Smithsburg. All supplies for the class are provided and each participant will leave with a large flower arrangement in a mason jar that they created. Please note that not all the flowers in the picture above are not necessarily the flowers that will be available at the class. This picture shows you the size of the arrangement you will make. You will also get one drink ticket. More drinks can be purchased for an additional onsite fee. Each ticket holder will also receive a small goodie bag. The cost of the tickets is $45. The event is limited to 20 participants. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 7th and we will only sell 20 tickets! We will be holding this class inside, so this is a rain or shine event. No refunds will be given. Participants are invited to stay after class and enjoy Blue Mountain Wine Crafters, their outdoor patio and the music stylings of Elijah Myers. Have questions – please email us at [email protected] or call the Farm Store at 301-416-2425. If no one answers – Lori is probably out working the farm, so please leave a message so one of us can call you back. Blue Mountain Wine Crafters is a boutique winery in quaint Funkstown, Maryland. Tim and Cindy Rowe established Blue Mountain Wine Crafters, LLC in September 2014. A retired Dental Hygienist, Cindy worked in the field for more than 30 years while Tim is a Certified Safety Professional working in his field for nearly 30 years. Together, they also have more than 20 years of experience making wine. They wanted to pursue their hobby of wine-making and expand their interest in beer brewing with the community. In December of 2014, Cindy and Tim met with the owner of The Cracked Cork (the store’s former name) in Funkstown, MD, and took over the store. Among other things, they wanted to carry on the hometown, small business atmosphere, and share the passion for wine and beer making. In May of 2016, they moved to their current location, 117 East Baltimore Street also in Funkstown, and became a winery, offering Blue Mountain Wine Crafters wine for tasting and bottle sales. The grapes from all their wines come from right here in Washington County, MD at a nearby vineyard, in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They buy most of their choice grapes from vineyards right here in the mountains of Washington County and make delicious, award-winning wines on site. Tim and Cindy believe in supporting other local small businesses by buying local fruits, cheese, candy, popcorn and peanuts to serve at the winery. They also sell local candles and honey. Stop in for a tasting. Kick back with a glass of wine and enjoy their live music most every weekend or Make your own bottles of wine – a great group activity. Cindy and Tim are so happy to have met so many nice people in running their business. They hope to continue meeting new friends and enjoy the many friendships already made. Above all, feel free to share your stories, ask questions, and see what Blue Mountain Wine Crafters can do to help you become a better vintner or brewer. Or, make your own with us! Painted Pastures is a beautiful 12-acre farm in Smithsburg that has become home to some uniquely charming animals since January 2020. It was given the name Painted Pastures because it so perfectly describes the place. It is like a little piece of heaven where flowers bloom and visitors, are greeted by friendly multicolored Nigerian Dwarf goats and clucking chickens with shiny red, white and black feathers. Owner Lori Anderson can be found on the farm just about any day of the week, tending to her animals and flowers with her beloved canine companion Anne. Everyone is invited to visit this friendly place to see the goats, chickens, sheep, and horses. Ronnie the Rooster will be there to greet all the guests and keep all his animal friends in line. The Nigerian Dwarf goats are the star of this show (shh don’t tell Ronnie). The fields are a perfect play yard where they climb, jump and head butt each other knowing they are safe and loved. In the spring, the field is full of “kids” ( baby goats) and their mommies. It is quite the sight to see. “There is something very special about the atmosphere here. It makes people feel good and makes them forget about their troubles,” Lori says. Lori raises her goats for their rich milk which she then uses to make soaps, lotions, balms, sugar scrubs and bath bombs. These goat milk personal care products are naturally emollient, and the soaps come in a wide variety of colors and fragrances. All are great to give as gifts or for daily use in your home. The Farm store is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and is filled with these products and many unique and one-of-a-kind pieces from other local artisans. You can also find their products at The Market Hub, Old Home Stead, McCutcheon Apple Products, Scenic View Orchard, and Deliteful Dairy. There is a lot of beauty on this quaint farm property. Along with the goat milk products, Lori raises and sells fresh cut flowers. They are grown in a hoop greenhouse just down the hill from the goat barn. During the summer months, she runs a roadside flower stand at the end of her driveway. Gorgeous bouquets of fresh flowers are available to purchase starting at $15 each. She says that she employs the “honor system” at the flower stand and it has worked out quite well. There are many ways to enjoy all that Painted Pastures has to offer, including the Farm to Table meals where guests enjoy all locally sourced meal served under the trees on the farm. In 2023, we also added Paint Nites. At all these events, guests are welcome to hang out with the animals while they enjoy the peace and tranquility of their surroundings.
