The Statue of Liberty: What the Statue of Liberty has symbolized over the years and Ellis IslandStone Mountain: Stone Mountain as a natural place of beauty and recreation and conversely as a symbol of the Confederacy and racism. The American Bald Eagle: This clip begins exploring the importance of the eagle to Native Americans and continues on with an interview with Jack Davis on the near extinction of the bald eagle. The Golden Gate Bridge: Considerations of what makes Golden Gate Bridge unique and the idea of American history as a history of transportation.This is a free and public event. There will be light refreshments before and after the screening, an after-show discussion, door prizes and station tours.

In this new eight-episode documentary series, David Rubenstein explores America’s 400-year history through a close examination of iconic national symbols: indelible artifacts, places, and archetypes. Each episode tells the story of an American symbol to reveal its origins, significance and the arc of its resonance. Episode subjects include the Hollywood Sign, Fenway Park, American cowboys, Gadsden Flag (“Don’t Tread On Me”), American Bald Eagle, Stone Mountain, Statue of Liberty, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Rubenstein invites historical experts and community members to examine myriad ways the American public engages with these subjects.
