Age: 13+ Workshop Description: • How soap is made: Saponification is “kitchen chemistry” • Safety on how to handle lye (caustic soda) • Equipment and supplies to make soap safely at home • How to calculate the proportions of soap ingredients • Making ~200 grams of fragrant and colorful soap and take it home Materials & Supplies provided by RSC • Balance • Immersion blender• Plastic container to mix oil and lye (DO NOT USE ALUMINUM)• Heat resistant glass jar to dissolve lye • Olive oil • Lye: Sodium Hydroxide (99% pure)• Essential oil for fragrance. • Food colorant • Nitrile Gloves and safety goggles.
