Description

Carl has been attending public and private jams of many genres for over a decade and is a guitar teacher and performing musician. In this workshop, you will learn the local jam setting and how to jump in without needing to know how to play the songs beforehand. A full list of nearby public jams will be provided, and general etiquette will be covered. Carl will also walk you through basic music theory so you can understand how to quickly know the chords, the key, and rhythm of simple 3 & 4 chord songs. He will also provide a list of songs/artists that are played at local jams. When and how to take a solo during the song will be covered as well. Finally, you will actually jam and practice getting out of your comfort zone. That's the best way (and perhaps, the only way) to get over the fear of making mistakes, being put on the spot, stage fright, etc. This can certainly help you for open mic settings as well, even though those aren't always collaborative like the jams. Bring your acoustic instrument (all are welcome) and questions! Guitar players will benefit with a capo. Feel free to send your questions to Carl ahead of time! Contact [email protected]
