Early this year West Virginia lost two esteemed creative spirits. Doug Chadwick died January 1, followed by his beloved partner Gina Schrader on January 13. Doug’s work in panoramic photography established him as one of West Virginia’s premier photographers. He mastered the complicated techniques of a giant 1920s-model rotating Cirkut Panoramic Camera to produce portraits of large groups of people—legislatures in their chambers in more than a dozen states, inaugurations, car clubs, air shows, and many other events. In his fine art work he turned his keen eye on landscape and nature, exhibiting his photographs in museums and galleries. Gina’s outsized personality and boundless energy won her friends throughout the country in many walks of life, and especially in the world of bluegrass and traditional Appalachian music, her great passion. Her camera captured portraits of musicians, friends, and acquaintances who immediately became her friends. A businesswoman, gardener, organizer, mother, and grandmother, she made the world a happier place. Join us in celebrating their lives at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg on June 10 at 1PM.
