Description
During the workshop, Anna will show you how to select the right weight of yarn for your repair, helping you to create a unique mend and extend the life of your garment. Using knitted samples and yarns leftover from the TOAST production process, Anna will demonstrate how to mend small and large holes using this traditional technique. This workshop is suitable for beginners. Mending materials and morning refreshments will be provided. Please bring along an item you would like to repair; alternatively you will be able to learn the techniques and create a small sampler. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anna Svoboda-Stel is a local artist and lifelong sewer, providing professional alterations and repairs for several years. Working with a variety of textile techniques including dyeing, weaving, embroidery and upholstery, Anna offers mending and repairs services at the Germantown Laundromat on Mondays from 11 – 5pm. The Germantown Laundromat opened in 1965 and in its newest iteration, is a community space to explore what it means to live a cleaner life. The back of the building still functions as a 24/7 Laundromat, using energy efficient machines that pull energy from wind and solar and conserve water by weighing the clothes before filling. The front of the building is a shop that offers mending and repair services and sells bulk refills and reusable household products. Germantown Laundromat hopes to make the conversation around climate change less daunting, encouraging small behavioral changes to help us take care of our planet. TOAST is a unique British lifestyle brand renowned for its thoughtful, contemporary design and commitment to traditional textiles and craftsmanship. Seasonal workshops and gatherings bring together our community and foster creativity. The Renew exhibition, curated by Kate Orne of publication Upstate Diary, will highlight the unique ways artists based in Hudson Valley have transformed existing materials. Renew will feature works by Sam Falls, Kat Howard, Kieran Kinsella, Kiva Motnyk and Dana Sherwood. Visit the Renew Exhibition and join us for our workshops at 415 B Warren Street, Hudson.
