How do meditation, prayer, and action work together?Join us monthly at the Baha'i Welcome Center to practice meditation as a basis for spiritual progress. All faith backgrounds are welcome. We gather in the Welcome Center (next to the Temple) at 7:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month for a brief introduction to meditation from a Baha’i perspective and suggestions for helpful methods. The group then goes up to the Temple Auditorium for 30 minutes of quiet contemplation, followed by sharing of experiences and inspiration, and ending at 8:30 p.m.
There are no set forms of meditation prescribed in the Baha'i teachings. However, Baha'is are urged to pray and meditate daily and are taught that meditation should be followed by service to humanity. But the way to meditate is left entirely to the individual. In this monthly gathering, passages from the Baha'i Writings will be shared as we learn and practice meditation together.
People of all faith backgrounds are encouraged to attend, and you can come as you are. Writings from other religions are also welcomed. The Welcome Center address is 112 Linden Ave, Wilmette, IL.
The Temple is open every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. for personal prayer and reflection. (The meditation group will have the Temple to themselves from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
"Prayer and meditation are very important factors in deepening the spiritual life of the individual, but with them must go also action and example, as these are the tangible results of the former. Both are essential." - The Baha'i Writings
