Description

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND:ROMANCING THE RHONEA B O U TThe Rhône region is unlike the landscapes most of us picture when we think of France and yet is is quintessential Gallic: rugged terrain, wild herbs, colorful villages perched on craggy ranges, endless rows of fragrant lavender. This is olive oil France, not butter France… and its wine’s reflect this charming rusticity. The landscape is a product of the powerful Rhone river as it empties into the Mediterranean just adjacent to Marseilles. The vine-covered interior is dominated by two regions: The Northern Rhone, home to haunting and smoky Syrah perched high on Limestone soils; The Southern Rhone, a more varied landscape whose center makes the storied wines known as Chateauneuf-du-Pape and various other smaller sub-regions that make heady, full-flavored, red-fruit-soaked leather scented wines from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. In this seminar we discover France’s Wild Country and discuss the various regions and sub-regions of France’s most rambunctious wines and compare and contrast wines from the northern reaches of the appellations as well as some of the crown-jewels of the southern Rhône not to mention discuss the region’s rare whites. We explore: The general geography, history and soils of the Rhone Valley RegionWe discuss the peculiarities of the Northern Rhone vs the Southenr RhoneWe review the major sub-regions and identify the local/typical grapes and stylesWe taste wines from those regions! Duh. All attendees receive 10% off all wines at J's Bottle Shop starting with the first bottle purchased on day of event. Some restrictions apply. Q&A: RESIDENCY 2023 - Spring /SummerAre Normal School of Wine seminars back? Yes, and no. We are continuing a limited-engagement pop-up at J's Bottle Shop for the Spring/Summer 2023 Season. We have a potential for Fall/Winter Encore (including our most popular Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Champagne seminars in November and December). We move out of Athens after December 2023 so this will, truly, the last lap around the track! Do I need to sign up for all of them? Sure! But you don't have to- each one is a self-contained individual wine-tasting seminar with a specific theme. Can one do an 'exclusive' or private seminar or class? Can it be custom? Ish! But, we're open to it! We can craft/accomodate *most* theme-ed tastings (i.e. "Wines of Greece," "Port" or "Holiday Wines". Organizer (you) are in charge of purchasing the wines (special/deep discount) and a $300 tasting fee (invoiced by NSW). Availibility is limited. 18 person maximum. If I have a NSW Gift Certificate of Existing/Active Discount Code, can I still use it? Sure! If you can't apply it, and it is active, send us an email at [email protected] and we will see what we can do. Can I bring a non-paying person with me who will not drink? We don't encourage it- seating is very limited in what is a small-ish room and we rather leave the most comfortable spots for our paying and wine tasting guests. Can I bring my own wine glasses? Sure! Bear in mind we pour 2oz per wine and it may look different dependign on wine glass size and bowl shape. No complainin'
