Description

The Northshore Schools Foundation values making art and music available to our students. The Foundation does that by prioritizing classroom grant requests for art supplies and musical instruments, and by refurbishing donated instruments to make them usable by students today. This May the Foundation is inviting you to focus on Music, with "May is for Music Month". The Foundation is excited to partner with 192 Brewing to offer Friday afternoon concerts, performed by NSD students. Come out and support student performances and increase access to musical instruments at the same time. We would love to see you there. Practicing music can have a positive impact on both a student's academic performance and mental health in several ways: Improving cognitive abilities: Learning and practicing music can enhance brain function, including memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. This can lead to better academic performance, which can reduce academic stress and anxiety. Reducing stress and anxiety: Playing music has been shown to have a calming effect on the body and mind, which can reduce stress and anxiety. This can be especially helpful for students who may experience academic pressure or performance anxiety. Boosting self-esteem and confidence: Learning to play an instrument and performing in front of others can boost self-esteem and confidence. This can be especially helpful for students who may struggle with self-confidence or self-doubt. Enhancing emotional expression: Music can be a powerful form of emotional expression, allowing students to express their feelings in a safe and creative way. This can be especially helpful for students who may struggle to express themselves verbally or in writing. Improving social skills: Practicing music in a group or ensemble setting can improve social skills, including communication, collaboration, and teamwork. This can be especially helpful for students who may struggle with social anxiety or making friends. * SAS is having its own Musical performances on May 25th at McMenamins in Bothell. 100% of the proceeds from that night will support the SAS music program.
