“Exiting the Cycle of Gang-related Violence”
In March 2023 sixteen SAIS students spent seven days in El Salvador interviewing key stakeholders that are involved in designing, implementing, and rethinking policies that address the current approaches of managing gang-related violence. The objective of the trip was to gain a deeper understanding of the core challenges that are currently shaping the governmental policies, as well as look for opportunities that may facilitate a meaningful transition to sustainable peace in El Salvador. The students were tasked to write individual reports on specific topics through which they would evaluate the impact and effectiveness of current policies; and finally, to present recommendations about how best to advance the process of long-term sustainable transition to peace. Students will discuss their findings and present their report.
