Allbirds at Derby Street and Free. are kicking off Period Poverty Awareness week on the South Shore! We welcome those hosting drives, organizing awareness campaigns, and anyone interested in learning more about the local impact of Period Poverty to attend! Choose a voluteer window and get ready for some fun!
Allbirds has graciously offered 15% off full priced items during the event and will also send home one lucky winner with their own pair of Allbirds! There will also be other prizes throughout the event!
This year Free. partnered with a consultant from the MA DPH Comprehensive School Health Services to survey needs in our schools statewide. Together we found that over 92% of responding schools are struggling to meet the needs of menstruating students. Additionally we were able to identify close to 5,000 students in need of full product support year round. Period Poverty in MA is real and it is impacting educational success statewide.
To begin meeting this need locally we will pack products at the event to help support over 2,200 South Shore students through Free.'s summer access program. Products will be given to students before the end of the school year to help them enjoy their summer break with dignity.
If you are holding your own drive and would like to bring collected products to donate to Free., we will happily accept them! Free. provides product access to well over 5,000 menstruators each month through our Community Partners and schools. We are volunteer led and staffed, meaning 100% of your donations will go directly to those who need them most. We are only able to do this work because of support from our Giving Community, (that's you)!
